<sigh> support/advice needed: EBF newborns, especially large babies

Is it possible Eliza is going through a growth spurt, or am I not making enough milk?

She has been up every 2 hours on the dot every night for the past 3 nights. She nurses then goes right to sleep- but it's really starting to wear on me. It's not like this is a huge change from her normal patterns though. I think the longest she's given me at night is 4 houurs, and that was for 2 nights only.

Is it normal for an 11 week old to be needing to nurse this much? She's big- 23 inches and just under 13 pounds. Madelyn was only getting up 1x, sometimes twice a night at this point- but she was much smaller.

I'm going back to work next week and can't imagine having to work with kids feeling like this.

DS is only 6 weeks old, but he did something similar during his growth spurt at 3 weeks. The every 2 hour nursing sessions lasted several days. There are still nights where he nurses every 2 hours or so. I don't have any advice, but wanted to offer some .

I think it could be a growth spurt maybe teething. Something is causing her to wake up and need that comfort. I doubt it is hunger but you never know.

Every child is different so it won't be just like your first. My one friend who BF'd her first, her DD would always go to sleep after. Her 2nd DD, would be awake after nursing, it drove her crazy because she didn't expect it.

Get some rest and don't worry.

ugh, yes. it's most likely a growth spurt. DS was about the same weight at 11-12 weeks (that actually doesn't sound that big to me ) and he went through one point at around 10 weeks (i think) and again at 4 months where h wanted to eat CONSTANTLY. i would not worry - you will make as much milk as she needs. just let her nurse when she wants and i am thinking in a few days she will slow down a bit

For a while I was BFing every 2 hours, its normal I think. As long as it isnt more often than that, or so said the pedi.

Erik was like that. He was up every 2-3 hours (sometimes every 1-2 hours!) until he was about 5/6 months old. Then he started spacing out to 4-5 hours. He's still not a great sleeper though. At almost 8 months, he's only slept through a handful of times.

Ella was sleeping 8hrs by 8 weeks!

DD definitely did this on occasion when she was that age. They definitely go thru growth spurts and DD was a large baby at that time. I don't think it is unusual it would last like 1-2 weeks then she would go back to normal. Although at 11 weeks she was still waking about every 4 hours for a feeding so she wasn't sleeping all night yet.

TOTALLY normal!!!You are doing a great job. You may want to pump to use a bottle some evenings if you need some sleep.

um I'm still waking every 2-3 hrs at night with Ella...EBF and she was my biggest. She checked in at 13 lbs and change the other day at 4 mths old.

I don't even GET a 4 hr stretch from Ella

My DS did this until he was four months old. He was litterally up every two - three hours, fed like a baby that had never eaten before and then fell right back to sleep.

It could just be a growth spirt though. Since you are going back to work maybe try and give her a bottle (can be breastmilk) around 11 p.m. Maybe the large amount of milk will hold her over. My sister in law power fed before she would put my newphew to bed. She nursed him every couple of hours from 7p.m. on and at 11 p.m. gave him a bottle.

He's 11 months old eating table food. He's still a great eater and thankfully a wonderful sleeper. He sleeps better than his 2 year old brother.
